Day 3 train from Lisbon to Porto 6 miles Tryp Hotel

11:39. First class train to Porto.  Smooth ride.  Senior tickets are half price so it cost us 32 Euro.

Oh the joy of planning our own trip!  We decided to take another day in Porto and visit one of the Port wineries- Graham’s as recommended by John and Debbi who are in Tavira right now!

We’ll probably walk the first stage out of Porto tomorrow without our packs and then return to Porto and take a bus the next day to Araujo skipping the industrial part of the walk.

We had a good chuckle waiting for the train about all the esoteric comments I have made before about the wonders of the Camino.  After reading so many blogs and guidebooks saying similar things, I am feeling compelled to shy away from that this time.  We’ll see how the spirit moves🤣.

For now, sunshine, a good sleep, delicious coffee, and a pain free shoulder are all the delights I need.

And this guy:

We do this so well.  Craig is the navigator extraordinaire.  I follow up with communications and scoping out the hotels, restaurants and I provide a certain amount of entertainment.  It’s a smooth operation cultivated by many years of practice.  I love it here.  And I don’t really know why.  Maybe it’s just the experience of being away.  Maybe I belong here but my roots are deep in the PNW and I wouldn’t trade that as this time of my life.

My friend just wrote this to me and it speaks true:

"u hit nail on head something you said about just the two of you - and away from it all.Seems we have to go far away to shed our home selves and be that other person -without burdens and worries too far away to solve."

Afternoon:

Our hotel proprietor sent us next door to taste some port gratis.  This is after all Porto!

Best sardines ever.

Will we start walking?  A sign:

What a perfect evening.

Our own Fado performance at the cathedral.  A walk to the water.  A meal by the river. A funicular ride back up the hill.  A conversation with Muhammad on the Metro. The streets are filled at 11 pm.
